...says Jason McCann, Varidesk CEO

Q What are the health implications of sitting at our desks for eight hours a day?

A “When you’re thinking about sitting all day at a desk, it’s the ‘all day’ part that’s the problem – staying in one static position for too long is not what our bodies were designed for. Research has shown that too much sedentary time can lead to serious ailments, including heart disease and increased risk of premature death. A recent study in the British Journal Of Sports

Medicine recommended standing for a minimum of two hours during the workday to combat those effects. You can also burn up to 52,000 calories a year!”

Q Are there any known workrelated benefits to using a standing desk in terms of greater productivity or creativity? A “Yes, definitely. A study from Washington University published in 2014 showed that active work environments increased communication between individuals, as well as increased creativity and productivity.”

Q What are your tips for choosing the best space for a standing desk?

A “You need a space that enables you to sit and stand. We focused first on making the heightadjustability of the Varidesk as simple as possible, as that’s one of the most important parts of standing in the workplace. It’s not about standing all day – it’s about a balance between sitting and standing.”
