Why GPS is a vital aid for modern athletes
The biggest boon of a sports watch is its GPS tracking. It’s vital knowledge for the marathon runner, for example, showing their pace and subsequently determining what time they may be capable of and guiding them towards it. Other stats, including distance covered and ascent/descent, are useful training aids, but the hillwalker can benefit hugely from navigation aids, too. Current altitude can be a huge help in locating yourself on a map. GPS files of a route can be loaded on, or a route recorded to share later.
In tests, there was almost nothing to choose between the three watches when it came to GPS performance.
