FROM CONCEPT ALBUMS TO QUEEN-INSPIRED ROCK, THIS MONTH’S RELEASES HAVE SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

-

01 dream theater: the astonishing

This ambitious, 34-track double-CD concept album has serious geek appeal. Laden with complex time signatures and ace guitar playing, it’s the soundtrack to a story written by singer/guitarist John Petrucci, which follows a group of rebels in the year 2285 as they fight to defy an oppressive empire – drones included!

02 savages: adore life

London-based Savages have been slaying the live-music scene since the release of their debut album in 2013. Now they’re back with a new LP that’s louder, stronger and packing a megaton of attitude. Adore Life explores the lofty concepts of love and humanity, all backdropped by Savages’ raw blend of ballsy post-punk. Highly recommended.

03 suede: night thoughts

The seventh studio LP (to be accompanied by a feature film) from Brett Anderson and co,

Night Thoughts is a 12-track offering that pokes around in themes such as death, anguish and love. Check out the cinematic Pale Snow, the searing guitar riff on Outsiders, and Brett’s climbing vocals on the epic Like Kids.

04 panic! at the disco: death of a bachelor

Described by frontman Brendan Urie as a “mix between Sinatra and Queen”, Panic!’s new album could be their most innovative yet. There’s jazz ( Death

Of A Bachelor), there’s rock ( LA Devotee) and there’s plenty of pop – fans of Fallout Boy will especially like Hallelujah and Victorious.
