expand your musical horizons

Evolve your taste in music with funky new audio tech that learns the bands you like, and intuitively knows what tracks to play depending on who’s in the room

-

Ever had one of those shaming house-party moments where you have a room full of musos enjoying your well-crafted playlist, only for your shuffle function to go udders-up and fill the air with Sinitta’s Greatest Hits instead? The Prizm ‘music brain’ is a smart music player that’ll ensure such shame never plagues you again.

A sleek pyramid-shaped gadget, Prizm is all about automating your playlists to suit your mood, the time of day and the company you’re keeping. It plugs into your existing speakers and doesn’t need a phone or tablet to control it. Compatible with Soundcloud and Deezer (no Spotify support yet), Prizm builds its picture of your musical tastes from the artists you listen to on those streaming sites.

By considering who’s in the room, what their music preferences are and the mood, Prizm always knows what to play.

“We believe the music experience is deeply linked to the context,” says Pierre Gochgarian, Prizm’s CEO. “We don’t want to listen to the same music when we’re doing housework as we do when we party with friends, or when we’re alone.”

The device also actively learns your tastes and will suggest songs it thinks you’ll like. If you enjoy its song suggestion, Prizm will add the track to your playlist, constantly evolving your music library.

As Pierre tells us, “Being able to enjoy music at the touch of a button, without having to browse an app and do Bluetooth pairing/cable connection, is game-changing for users who want to enjoy music every day.”

Prizm is available to buy later this month at meetprizm.com, for 149 (£112).

To get started, plug the player into your speaker and pair Prizm with your phone.

Prizm recognises you by the Deezer or Soundcloud apps on your phone, so it’ll automatically start up when it detects your presence. It also recognises multiusers and will mix a playlist to suit you all.

“Prizm senses the time of day or night, and plays music accordingly”
