Track your next run with smart clothing

Keep the momentum going on your ‘new year, new you’ mantra with connected running clobber designed to track your performance without you having to wear a wristband

-

These days, we can’t move for fitness trackers designed to keep an eye on our activity. But what if you’re a runner who wants realtime feedback yet loathes wearing fitness bands? Help is on the way this March, with a new wearable aimed at helping runners track their performance without using wristbands.

Lumo Run is a pair of connected running shorts (for guys) or capris (for gals) with a sensor embedded in the waistband to coach users to run faster and further. Working with a biomechanist to determine the key characteristics for ideal running form, Lumo Bodytech has created Lumo Run to help runners capture research-grade biometrics with the aim of improving their running form.

Lumo Run is based around a waterproof nine-axis sensor that sits in the waistband of the shorts or capris, lasting up to a month following a full charge. The sensor collects a range of metrics during your run, including cadence (steps per minute), bounce (the up and down movement of your body when running), pelvic rotation and stride length, which it feeds to the Lumo Run app for analysis.

If you’re happy taking your phone on your run, connect your earphones to your handset and use the app to gain real-time feedback on your running form, with insight into pace and distance.
