Keep your tunes flowing

-

Wireless audio is fast becoming the de facto way of listening to music. We’re geared up for it, but are our homes?

Multi-room audio is a revelation, enabling you to stream your sounds to any room in the home wirelessly, but you might find that your Wi-Fi network is ineffective in parts of your abode. The result: your multi-room speakers will struggle to connect, or streaming will be choppy as hell.

The solution is, as it’s always been, to extend the range of your wireless network. The easiest way to do this is to buy a wireless repeater that piggybacks onto your network, essentially mirroring its signal to the area you place it. It’s a cheap fix but you’ll get some loss of network speed.

Alternatively, T3’ s preferred method is to upgrade your system with Powerline. Using your home’s electrics, you can ferry your internet connection from one part of the home to another without loss of speed. Make sure you choose a Powerline adapter with Wi-Fi built in – this lets you create a new Wi-Fi network wherever there’s a power socket, enabling you to easily cover wireless black spots anywhere in the home.
