Time to cut up that Starbucks loyalty card – OUR PICK OF coff ee machines will give you that morning buzz in your own home

- Words: Andrew Williams Photography: Simon Lees

tired of paying £3 a pop just to get your caffeine fix? then maybe it’s time to make your own coffee.

And if you want to avoid ending up with coffee grounds spattered all over your walls, you might want to think about a bean-to-cup machine, as these usually spit out those little waste pucks into an internal bin. Here, we look at three of the best. At the wallet-friendly end, we have the Smarter Coffee Machine, probably the cheapest smart coffee-maker in the world, and one that can be controlled via your phone.

In the middle ground, we have the Gaggia Anima Deluxe, a serious espresso-maker that omits the smartphone capability but can make pretty much any coffee drink you like.

If you really want to splash out, the De’Longhi Prima-Donna Elite gives you both phone control and the ability to make any drink you want. Even silky-smooth hot chocolate. It’ll cost you £1,500, though, so prep your bank account before heading to the checkout…
