future tech: next-gen tv innovations

What bonkers things did the tv boff ins show off at ces 2016?

Super-flexible screens

LG was showing off this dreamcome-true screen. While it’s slightly too small for your living room at just 18 inches, this panel – almost certainly a by-product of curved TV innovation – could mean some very adventurous screen designs are on the horizon.

Modular displays

Samsung has a solution for the annoying black bars that crop up when you’re watching super-widescreen films: a panel made of smaller panels that can reform itself into different aspect ratios. This 170-inch example isn’t feasible for the home just yet, though.

Transparency

Both Samsung and Panasonic demonstrated cool transparent OLED displays, but it was the latter that had the most interesting showing. Built into a bookshelf, the screen flicked from fully clear to showing wildlife footage at the press of a button, then back again.
