Fitness trackers are fast becoming rivals to some smartwatches, but for basic day-to-day activity tracking, the Pebble Time Round doesn’t have much to worry about.
Thanks to the Pebble Health app (which requires firmware 3.8+), I can get a clear picture of my daily steps count, distance covered and minutes spent being active. Personally, I consider that to be more than enough insight when trekking back and forth to work on foot.
Sleep tracking is also available with the Time Round – I tried it once but disliked having a watch wrapped around my wrist all night. Pebble Health adds updates to the watch’s timeline, too, with an activity summary and a sleep summary available each day.
Some folk have complained about the stripped-down number of apps available for the Pebble Time Round, but whether or not you’ll feel the same depends upon what you’re into. Pebble’s native apps include Calendar, The Weather Channel, Music, Notifications, Alarms and Watchfaces, but there are many other apps available, catering to a range of interests and needs. Games apps come in the form of Tiny Bird, Mini Dungeon and Blocks, an infuriatingly addictive puzzle game that threatens to while away countless hours on train and bus journeys.
There are some nice health picks, such as Step Goal and 7-Minute+; sports-news apps (ESPN), including Timeline-ready ones (Euro Football), and apps to help you control your connected home (Leaf for Nest) and get around (MapsGPS). While admittedly there aren’t huge swathes of apps available for the Pebble Time Round, for the most part I found an app for each of my needs.
