Final verdict The Impressa Z6 doesn’t come cheap, but if you’re serious about your coffee, it’s an investment worth making

Once you grind, you can’t rewind – that’s what people say, right? No? Well, they should, as instant or filter coffee simply can’t match the richness of their ground cousin. The aroma of the beans and milk froth really pulls you in, and after a month I’m still loving the Impressa Z6.
The machine comes with a manual, which I recommend at least skimming through, as it reveals some impressive supplementary functions. I’ve discovered some really cool stuff, and the amount of finetuning this thing offers is amazing. This certainly isn’t your run-of-the-mill machine.
That’s not to say that it’s perfect. The Impressa Z6 prepares coffee that’s ready to drink straightaway, which means it can cool down very quickly. Thankfully, there are ways around this. Jura recommends pre-warming the cups, but it’s much easier to increase the temperature of both the coffee and the milky froth via the ‘Expert’ mode. Speaking of froth, I also found the milk system to be a little convoluted, but it’s still a great feature to have, and it’s totally optional as its not built into the main unit.
The milk nozzle will require regular washing, as residue can build up inside it, and you don’t want your morning cuppa smelling of camembert. But by applying some moderate maintenance, you’ll be rewarded with a great-tasting beverage, and it’s something I’m prepared to continue doing, as going back to a builder’s brew isn’t for me.
The Jura Impressa Z6 is a real centrepiece, and when you have friends and family over, be prepared to take a few orders. Just don’t be surprised if you find yourself saying, “Chocolate sprinkle with that?”.
