Oh, it is. The Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart is a Bluetooth toothbrush with a companion app and Smart Sensor tech to track your teeth cleaning, provide personalised feedback and help you create a complete oral care routine. It has five cleaning modes, three intensities, and comes with a travel case that doubles as a charger.

Smart Sensor tech, eh?

Yes, there are five sensors keeping tabs on your brushing. A Pressure Sensor alerts you if you brush too hard, a Location Sensor and 3D Mouth Map track coverage, and a Scrubbing Sensor guides you to reduce scrubbing. A TouchUp Sensor reminds you to clean missed areas.

Is that where the app comes in?

Yep. On-screen, you’ll see a 3D mouth map, showing in real-time which areas you’re brushing. Via the app you can also add notes from your dentist and create specific oral care goals for trouble spots.

It does that too. When used with a Premium Plaque Defence brush head (which is included), the DiamondClean Smart can remove up to 10 times more plaque than a manual toothbrush. Smart Brush Head Recognition automatically chooses the right mode for the right brush head, making it easy to use. The price tag is a whopper, though – it’s £80 more than 2016’s Oral-B Genius – so it needs to be damn impressive in the bathroom.
