fresh new ways to light your home

Illuminate your pad with the coolest lighting trends

-

When you break it down, there are three main types of lighting: task, ambient and accent. Considering the size of the room and the type of mood you want to create ensures you’ll always pick the right type. Smart lighting is perfect for any space that serves multiple purposes. You might prefer a brighter light in your living room for reading, for example, then something cosier for movie night. Connected lighting helps you achieve this with a few taps of your smartphone.

If industrial is more your scene, choose exposed bulb lights. These feature bright filament bulbs so fancy it would be a crime to hide them behind a shade. Consider hanging a series of them above your kitchen table or island for a statement installation. Not all lighting has to be blazing-bright or connected, though. Sometimes lighting a space can be as simple as buying a few lanterns, filling them with candles and getting your hygge on in front of their flickering flames. Subtle ambiance is also the domain of string lights wrapped around your bed or mirrors. Stick to white or off-white lights to prevent your room from looking like Joyce Byers has been in there ‘decorating’. Finally, have fun with a neon light. These accent lights can be found in the shape of animals, foods, objects and as inspirational phrases… That’s if you need ‘You can do it!’ blazing away at you over breakfast each morning, of course. (We do.)
