My HomePod isn’t connecting to my devices!

Becca Caddy replies: Apple’s HomePod is finally here, but don’t worry, you’re not the only one experiencing issues. Luckily most problems are easy to fix and involve some checking and tweaking. Fingers crossed you should be up and running quicker than you can say, “Hey Siri, open the pod bay doors!”

In your smart-speaker frenzy you may have forgotten the age- old tech troubleshooting first step: turning it off and on again. Try that with your HomePod, your iOS device and your Wi- Fi network. While you’re at it, turn Bluetooth on and off again on the device you’re connecting your HomePod to.

Another seemingly simple thing that’s easy to overlook is ensuring you’re running the most up-to- date version of iOS. Your iPhone or iPad needs to be running iOS 11.2.5 or later to get it to play nice with the HomePod, so check your settings.

You also need both the Music and Home apps on your iOS device to get HomePod working. Without realising it, you might have deleted one of these in a state of decluttering delirium. If you do already have the Home app, have a look at it now, as if there’s an obvious issue with your HomePod there should be a notification in the app that tells you what’s up and how to fix it.

Still not working? All is not lost, you just need to call Apple’s 24/ 7 helpline and they’ll sort you out in no time.
