Do it all , fast

Connecting the D-Link Smart Plug is so easy, you can master its advanced features in just a few minutes

-

01 Plug it in

Put the Smart Plug into a socket and give it a little while until the light turns orange. Download the Mydlink app via your phone’s app store, open it then sign up for an account. When you sign in you’ll be asked to add your first device. This is as simple as scanning the QR code on the card included with the plug.

02 Connect it

Now you’ll connect the Smart Plug to your home’s Wi-Fi network. You can do this using WPS for a simple hookup, or by using your router’s password; you’ll need to connect to the DSP-W115’s own wireless network to do this, using the password on the back of the plug. The socket will turn green when it’s connected.

03 Na me it , try it

Give your plug a name to signify its location in your house (or use the ‘Add location’ button to set your own), and you’ll be given confirmation of its successful installation. You should now see your plug listed in the shortcuts section of the main page. Tap it and you’ll hear the distinctive click of its relay toggling on and off.

04 Cust omise it

While you’ve added a location, you can do a little better. Click the three-line hamburger icon at the top left of the main app, select Settings, then head to Device and select your plug. You can switch the LED off using the toggle switch, and rename it using the Device Name option. Handy if you have several plugs in one room.

05 Sched ule it

Go back to the settings screen, select Schedule, and tap the plus button to begin the process of adding a new time. Click Plus again, select your plug and drag your finger around the outside of the timer to set the times you want your plug to switch on and off. Drag the dots to tweak it until it’s perfect, then tap Save.

06 Automate it

If you have other Mydlink products, you can automate them in the Automation section, but to get your Smart Plug working with other kit you can use IFTTT. Grab the app, sign in, and search for the D-Link Smart Plug. Connect to it, input the credentials you set earlier, and you’ll be able to use your own custom trigger.
