Room with a view

Out of the box the Hive View is an impressive security camera, but with a few tweaks you can make it even better

-

01 ADD THE CAMERA

Once you’ve attached the camera to its magnetic housing and plugged in the power, download the Hive app. You’ll need to sign up as a new user if you aren’t one already. Now select ‘Install a device’ from the menu and choose Hive View. Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter its password. Finally, give your camera a name.

04 ADJUST NOTIFICATIONS

As well as changing when the camera detects motion, you can also adjust when it notifies you. Head to the Settings tab and hit ‘Notifications’. Here you can toggle Activity Alerts on (or not), choose how you receive them (push, email or text) and set a schedule for when you’re alerted.

02 WATCH VIDEO

If you want to watch live video, simply tap on the camera’s name from the main interface. Then hit ‘Go Live’ on the video screen that appears in the Control menu. To view full screen, simply tilt your phone on its side. Any new video recordings will appear underneath this display. Tap one to play it back.

05 SET MOTION DETECTION

By default, the View will get busy detecting all motion and record it indiscriminately. You can adjust motion detection by going to the Settings tab and tapping ‘Detection’. Choose between ‘All’, ‘People’ or ‘Off’. You can also adjust whether or not you want the camera to detect sound.

03 SET A MOTION SCHEDULE

To prevent the camera from recording motion at all times, hit the Schedule tab at the top. Here you can adjust when you want the camera to detect motion and record it. Tap the Monitoring schedule toggle to activate it, then hit an individual time slot to edit what occurs on this instance.

06 TAKE ACTION

This step only applies if you have a Hive hub, but it’s useful. Head to the Actions tab, hit the + button, select ‘Add View’ and select an action. In doing this you can talk to your other Hive devices (or Hue lights) and make them do cool things, like turning on the lights when motion is detected.
