QI’m thinking of installing smart lighting throughout my home. Where do I begin?

AMatt Bolton replies: The easiest way to start is with a beginner-friendly smart lighting kit. We’re fans of the Philips Hue White Smart Bulb Starter Kit (£ 54.90,

meethue.com), which is ideal for brightening up parts of your home with custom white and coloured lighting. From there you could add extra Hue bulbs to different light fittings throughout your home, or buy standalone Hue lamps.

The Philips Being ceiling light (£119.99,

meethue.com), for example, is bright and crisply white for waking you up, while the portable Hue Go (£69.99, meethue.com) looks like a bowl of light, which you can set to all kinds of colours.

For a statement light that you can add to any room, choose the GE Sol C Smart Lamp ($149.99/£105.80, cbyge.com). It’s Alexa- enabled and you can adjust the brightness and colour depending on the time of day or what you’re doing.

For smart accent colour lighting on your walls try Nanoleaf’s Light Panels Smarter Kit (£ 219.95, apple.com). Each of the nine individual panels can be arranged into different shapes on the wall, and their colours customised via the app or by commanding Siri or Alexa.

For smart lighting outside your home, check out the incoming Arlo Security Light (£TBC , arlo.com), compatible with Alexa and IFTTT so that you can control it with your voice and integrate it into your smart home routine. The light has a motion detector, colour options, and

LED s that pump out 400 lumens of brightness so you’ll always see what’s happening outside, even on winter nights.
