GADGET GURU’S MAGIC BOX

-

It has taken a long time, but GaGu finally convinced Mrs Guru that the festering 15-year-old mattress from the bedroom had to go: in its place, one of those fancy pants squashed-in-a-box mattresses. Guru opted for a Simba Hybrid Pro (£650 after hefty discounts), given that his colleagues at T3 rate it as the best mattress in the world, and let him tell you: it is definitely a mattress. It would, at this point, be too hasty for GaGu to give it his own gold-star rating, as your author’s contorted spine was quite happy with his flea-ridden old night nest and this new one has taken a lot of getting used to. But it is certainly agreeably soft, with a good bit of firm support in contrast.

The months-long bedroom realignment process of Guru Towers currently sees GaGu without a home office, working from his lounge like some kind of peasant – but at least his new bedroom is now done. Never let it be said that Guru isn’t practical, but he emerged scarred and bruised after assembling a massive Pax wardrobe set from Ikea. Guru’s options, including some neat Trådfri smart lights, totalled around £700, but you can go cheaper. Note to our Swedish furniture overlords: some kind of overview guide, telling folks what to build first and why, would have prevented Guru unscrewing and rescrewing things while muttering advanced curse words under his breath.

Final quick thing: GaGu has been testing the Cooler Master MM830 gaming mouse, which has a weird D-pad of thumb buttons, some great switches, a whole bunch of RGB, and a preposterous LCD screen tucked away on the front left edge. This is basically the most extra mouse he has ever seen – if you can find it for £50, snap one up.
