Sonos has been on something of a rejuvenation spree recently – a spree that included a little controversy when it dropped support for older speaker models – so it’s no surprise that 2013’s Playbar has finally met its doom. The Arc is a heavyweight replacement, though, so we’re extremely pleased: it sees Sonos going Dolby Atmos, with an app-tunable 11-speaker soundbar able to create a 5.0.2 mix on its own. Paired with One SL wireless surround speakers or the newly revised Sonos Sub, you can easily expand that mix, and this carries the network connectivity that Sonos is known for. It has cute extra touches: there’s Alexa support, it’ll sense if it’s attached to the wall and dial down the bass resonance to suit, and it’ll even dim its own LEDs if you drop the lights for movie night.
