Funeral ser­vice for the late Mar­i­lyn ‘Joan’ Mac­don­ald, 76, Antigo­nish, was held Au­gust 29 in St. Ninian Cathe­dral with Fa­ther Don­ald Macgillivray of­fi­ci­at­ing, as­sisted by Fa­ther Bernard Ma­cadam. Burial was in St. Mar­garet of Scot­land Ceme­tery, Ari­saig.

Mrs. Mac­don­ald died Au­gust 25, 2018, at home.

Read­ers at the funeral Mass were Cordis Mac­don­ald and Mary Ha­ley. Mu­sic was pro­vided by Emery van de Wiel, Grace Rose and Abi­gail Mac­don­ald.

Pall­bear­ers were Joey De­coste, Ste­vie Macin­nis, Bengie De­coste, Jerry Smith, Al­lan Mac­don­ald and Colin Macin­nis.

Born July 4, 1942, in Antigo­nish, she was a daugh­ter of the late Clarence and Rita (Boudreau) De­coste. She grad­u­ated from St. Martha’s School of Nurs­ing in 1962. She and friend, Ce­cilia Sernyk (Mack­in­non), nursed at Hum­ber Me­mo­rial Hos­pi­tal in On­tario, then re­turned to St. Martha’s Hos­pi­tal, work­ing there un­til 1984. She re­tired from the R.K. Mac­don­ald Nurs­ing Home in 1996. She was an avid bowler in her early years and en­joyed softball and hockey when her chil­dren were play­ing. She and her hus­band en­joyed danc­ing and watch­ing grand­daugh­ter Candice fig­ure skat­ing. She also en­joyed play­ing cards, watch­ing TV and, in her later years, go­ing to bingo.

She is sur­vived by her hus­band, Ron­nie; daugh­ter, Colleen, Antigo­nish; son, David (Cordis), Antigo­nish; three grand­chil­dren, Can­dace; twins, Bar­rett, Grace; brother, Kevin (Cathy), East Tra­cadie; two sis­ters, Denise, Antigo­nish; Betty (Richard) Boudreau, East Tra­cadie; sis­terin-law, Joyce De­coste, St. Catharines, On­tario.

She was pre­de­ceased by brother, Robert.
