DAY, Shirley Doreen

-

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we said goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt on November 17, 2020 at the well-lived age of 94. A proud lifelong resident of Dartmouth - in her words, "we’re not Halifax". She was the golden thread of love that spun invisibly through her family’s hearts and lives. She was a daughter of the late Grace Viola (Mcdonald) and Cecil Thomas Mckenzie (of Woodside, Dartmouth). She is lovingly survived by her sisters, Gloria June Dowdell of Ontario and Joy Marie Smith of Dartmouth and brother, Randall Bruce Paul (Diane) of Bedford and by her devoted children, Donnie (Jean), Brian (Gail), Lynn (Greg), Toni, Shirley (Charles), Peter (Kelly) and Joy; special cousin, Lillian (Mickey) Richards. Mom also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their bonds were special and will never be forgotten. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald and infant daughter, Joanne Shirley; also brothers, Neil Lyle "Chubby", Cecil Dawn "Bim", Lloyd Allison "Buddy", Beverly James "Bev", Lorne Alton "Cappy" and Baby Roderick in infancy. Mom was a strong, determined, independent and much- loved woman. We will miss her every day. Due to COVID-19 there will be no visitation. A private service will be held. A celebration of Mom’s life will take place when it is safe for "her people" to come together. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home, Queen Street, Dartmouth and online messages of condolences may be sent to: www.dartmouthfuneralhome.ca
