-

1926 - 2020. With love, sadness and peace, we announce the passing ofmary Edith Byron (94 years), on Saturday, November 21, 2020 in Northwood (Ivany Place), Bedford. Born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton, on October 1, 1926, she was a daughter of the late James Alexander Macleod and Edith Layte Macdonald Macleod. Due to current public health limitations, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. She will eventually be laid to rest in the Byron family graveyard, beside her husband, Ralph Daniel Byron, at Shediac Road Cemetery, in Moncton, N.B. Early in her life, Mary had dreams of being a ballet dancer and throughout her life she continued to value classical music and beauty. After graduating grade 12 at Glace Bay High School, she went on to study nursing at Glace Bay General Hospital. Once she obtained her RN designation, as was the requirement at the time, she was proud to be hired by Trans Canada Airlines/air Canada, as a Stewardess out of Montreal and eventually a Ticket Agent in Halifax, where she retired after 35 years. Mary was an independent, humorous, adventurous, stylish, artistic, caring person, who loved spending time with all of her family members and friends. To name a few of her hobbies, she enjoyed watching and reading "scary" stories, played games of all sorts and looked forward to "fun" time at the Casino. She treasured her Bridge gatherings, loved baking and decorating special occasion cakes for family celebrations, going to musical and various entertainment events, painting and travelling. Her favourite travel stories were of Hong Kong and Barbados. Mary was predeceased by her parents, James and Edith Macleod; her husband, Ralph Byron; her longtime companion, Ed Officia; sister, Mildred Eileen Apblett; brother, Daniel James Macleod and much cherished brothers, and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her sister, Muriel MacLeod Shepard Pettit; many treasured nieces, nephews, great and great great-nieces and nephews, and goddaughters, Nancy Mitchell and Kristi Legaarden. Her family wish to extend their gratitude to the caring, committed staff/caregivers of Northwood Bedford for making her last two and a half years as respectful and supportive as was possible. Mary was very content in her home there. Special mention also goes to her niece, Carol Shepard Conrad and nephew-in-law (aka "boyfriend" lol) Greg Conrad for their care and support of Mary over many years and to nieces, Claudia Mccloskey and Diane Alderton and friends, Jeanette Tobin and Sharon Gibson, for their support to Carol and Greg during those years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Condolences for Muriel and family can be sent to: cscmm23@ gmail.com or 23 Woodbury Dr., Halifax, NS B3M 1Z6. Her final wish to all her family and friends.. "Be good to each other"
