Man, teen face weapons charges

A 21-year-old man and a teenage girl face weapons charges after police officers investigat­ing a Dartmouth hit-and-run found a gun in the suspect vehicle.

A vehicle travelling on Mic Mac Boulevard ran into the back of another vehicle that was making a turn onto Horizon Court shortly after 9 p.m. on Thursday night.

“The driver of the vehicle did not attempt to provide informatio­n to the other driver and left the area,” a Halifax Regional Police release said. “Officers located the vehicle in the parking lot at Mic Mac Mall and arrested the driver for failing to stop at the scene of a collision. Officers observed a long gun while securing the vehicle for seizure. Officers arrested the female passenger in relation to the firearm.”

The driver, a Cole Harbour man, faces one count each of possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a firearm without a licence or certificat­e, unauthoriz­ed possession of a firearm, unlawfully carrying a firearm or weapon, failure to stop after an accident, resisting arrest and failure to attend court.

He was also issued summary offence tickets for driving with a suspended licence and driving without insurance.

The 17-year-old passenger, a girl from Lawrenceto­wn, is facing one count each of possession of a firearm in a vehicle, possession of a firearm without licence or certificat­e, unauthoriz­ed possession of a firearm and unlawfully carrying a firearm or weapon.

Both accused were released on conditions to appear in court at a later date.
