Alberta man faces child porn charges

- THE CHRONICLE HERALD

“Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Child and Family Services Act.” RCMP news release

An Alberta man was arrested in Nova Scotia this week after allegedly sharing more than 10,000 sexually explicit images and videos of children online.

An RCMP news release Friday said investigators have downloaded “a significant amount” of child pornography from an individual since August.

Members of the RCMP'S provincial internet child exploitation unit searched a home in Brickton, Annapolis County, on Wednesday and arrested Dwain Robert MacDonald, 58.

Sgt. Andrew Joyce said he didn't know why the man was living in Brickton.

Macdonald is charged with possession and distribution of child pornography, police said.

After Macdonald was arrested police seized various electronic items from the home.

A justice of the peace released Macdonald on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Annapolis Royal provincial court Jan. 4.

In the release, RCMP reminded the public that in Nova Scotia, it is mandatory for citizens to report suspected child pornography by contacting local police or providing a tip at www.cybertip.ca.

“Failing to report suspicious activity and materials could result in penalties similar to failure to report child abuse set out in the Child and Family Services Act,” the release said.
