JENNEX, Otis F.

-

It is with great sadness the family of Otis F. Jennex, 84, Dartmouth, formerly of Oyster Pond Jeddore, announces his passing on November 27, 2020, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, with his "sweetheart" Alma from Tangier and his son Michael by his side. Born in Oyster Pond, he was the son of the late Otis and Helen (Mitchell) Jennex. He married Alma in 1957 and they started their life together in Jeddore and then made the big move to Dartmouth in 1967. Otis worked for Nova Scotia Power from 1952-1991 and the Electragas Credit Union from 1954-1996. He started in the mail room at Nova Scotia Light and Power, was promoted to different roles within the company and completed his career as a Personnel Manager. Everyone knew "Odie!" He was well-respected within Nova Scotia Power and known as a kind, gentle person with a strong work ethic, always going the extra mile. Otis’ faith was a very important part of his life, both at St. John’s Parish in Oyster Pond and Christ Church in Dartmouth. He was a faithful servant as a lay reader and warden in both parishes. Otis "OJ" loved playing golf at Brightwood with the "Golden Horde" and playing the piano at the Brightwood Children’s Christmas Party. His other passions included the family home in Oyster Pond where he enjoyed mowing the lawn, growing potatoes, and watching Alma swim in the cold Atlantic. He loved playing the guitar and singing for his grandkids, and every night in his later years he watched Jeopardy and played crib with Alma. Otis loved his family! He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Alma (Mason); his children, Philip (Lise), Debbie (Jamie), Michael (Patty), and Mary Ann (Stuart). He was a loving husband and caring father, always willing to help. The lights of his life were his grandchildren, Brandon, Joel, Troy, Jennifer (Jake), Marianne, Rachael, Kyle, Madisen, Peter, Nicholas, Ryan, Mitchell, Katie and Holly. Nothing made him happier than following their educational pursuits and sporting milestones. The last two and a half years he had the pleasure of enjoying his great-grandsons Scott (Jenn and Jake) and Kostek (Madisen and Alex). His smile grew whenever their names were mentioned. He was predeceased by son, Edsel in infancy; parents Otis and Helen; brother, Carl; and daughterin-law, Debbie Jennex, late wife of Philip and mother of Brandon, Joel, and Troy. The family would like to thank caregivers on 7.4 at the Halifax Infirmary for their constant care of Otis during his last few difficult days after suffering a stroke on November 20th. There will be a family graveside service in the parish of St. John’s in Oyster Pond with Father Kyle Wagner officiating. A celebration of Otis’ life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or Christ Church in Dartmouth. Online condolences may be made at: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
