MACKEAN (Campbell), Gwendolyn Patricia "Gwen"

-

It is with great sorrow, yet grateful for a life well-lived, the family of Gwen announces her peaceful passing on November 27, 2020, at her home in Parkland at The Gardens, with her beloved husband Ray, and son Peter by her side. Gwen was born on September 22, 1927, to parents Clara and Samuel Campbell (of Plaster Rock, N.B.). She grew up in a boisterous, loving home, with four older brothers and two younger sisters. After high school Gwen travelled to Wolfville to attend Acadia University, where one day she spotted a handsome engineering student from Liverpool, Ray Mackean. Not one to wait around, Gwen invited Ray to the "Sadie Hawkins" dance, and the rest, as they say, was history! Turned out they made an excellent dance team, wowing everyone with their Jitterbug abilities! Ray and Gwen were married on September 5, 1951, in United Baptist Church in Plaster Rock, N.B. Shortly after Ray received his Engineering degree from what is now called Daltech, they moved to Montreal, eventually settling on the West Island, in Pointe Claire. Gwen was an amazing mom. Her main focus was always the welfare of her children, and she was involved in all aspects of our lives. She was a stay at home mom until her youngest child started school, and then she always sought employment at nearby schools, in order to have the same time off as them. In the early 70’s Mom and Dad moved back to the Maritimes, settling in Riverview, N.B. She worked for the Regional School Board there until her retirement. After Ray retired, they moved to the cottage they had built in Stanley Bridge, P. E. I. During that time, they became "snowbirds", travelling to various locations on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Ray and Gwen made several moves over the next few years, from Prince Edward Island to Moncton, from Caribou Shores to Halifax, and finally to Parkland at The Gardens in 2014. Gwen was predeceased by parents, Clara and Samuel Campbell; brothers, Bruce, Bill, and Wendall; and sisters, Helen and Barb. Survived by her husband of 69 years, Ray; brother, Reid (Bette); loving children, Tom, Dr. Peter (Carolyn), and Candace (Bill Armsworthy); and grandchildren, Danya O’malley (Cale, Alex, Hayden, and Colin), Jaclyn Clow ( Jared), Ainslie Armsworthy (Jason, Kierra and Jack), and Harry Armsworthy ( Sophie). Gwen also had numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She was always interested in what was happening in their lives and was like a second mother to many of them! A funeral service was held on Sunday, November 29th in First Congressional Church, Pastors Douglas Mott and Marvin Alarcon officiated. Interment will be Tuesday, December 1st in White Point Cemetery, White Point, Queen’s Co. Arrangements under the care and direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, Halifax.
