MIHELAKOS, James "Jim"

Of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, at the age of 77. Jim was born in Sykea, Lakonia, Greece on March 25, 1943 to father, Ioannis Mihelakos and mother, Maria (Bravakis). Jim did not have the luxury of a formal education and immigrated to Canada when he was only 15 years old. His ambition and work ethic led him to open his own business by the age of 19. Hemet the love of his life Vasiliki (Aivaliotis) and married on June 15, 1969. They have been inseparable ever since and enjoyed 52 wonderful years together. Jim went on to open Armdale Pizza with his brother-in-law for 18 years and later on Jim’s Family Restaurant ( Jim’s Pizza House) in 1988. He loved going to work and interacting with his customers. He was a great cook and boss and loved teaching his secrets to success to many who worked by his side over the years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed volunteering his time to the Greek Orthodox Church. Most recently he could be found socializing with his friends at the mall during the winter and vacationing in Greece with family and friends in the summer. He was known as "Jim from Greece" in Canada and "Jim from Canada" in Greece. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Steve (Rhode Island), and eldest son, John. He is survived by his wife; sisters, Garyfalia (Doumakis) and Anna (Stappas); his many nieces and nephews; his sons, Nektarios (Helen), Australia; and George ( Stavroula) and his grandchildren, Victoria, Yianna, Kiki, Elena and Dimitri whom he was so proud of and brought him joy each and every day. Jim touched so many lives over the years and his memory will forever be eternal. Visitation will be held on Tuesday afternoon, December 1st and Wednesday afternoon, December 2nd in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax.
