MACLEOD (Young), Marilyn Anne

-

It is with deep sadness, we announce the sudden passing of Marilyn Anne (Young) Macleod on November 28, 2020 at 77 years old. Although a tremendous loss, we want to instead acknowledge the incredibly full and vibrant life she led, which is how she’d want to be remembered. Marilyn was born January 10, 1943 in South Bar, to the late Benjamin and Florence (Warren) Young. She grew up there with her late siblings Warren Young and Linda Young, and her brother and sister who she is survived by, David ( Sylvia) Young, Sydney and sister, Susan (Mark) Biagi, Powell River, B.C. Cape Breton remained her home for most of her life, where she lived with her late husband David J. Macleod and raised her beloved children, Patti (Mark) Shannon, Phillip (Sandy Durling) and Heather (Andrew) Powell. Marilyn was fondly known as "Nan" to her grandchildren, Jessica (Evan), Samantha (Alex), Matthew ( Jillian), Marcus, Ben (Christine), Duncan and Abby. She was a big part of their lives, growing up and as adults. Whether it was skating, hiking or playing games, she always kept up and kept everyone laughing. Anyone who knew her, knew all about her grandkids; she was very proud of them. Marilyn was family to more than just her own. Helping and caring for others came naturally to her - it’s just who she was. She forged lifetime friendships with Irene Boquil, Mr. and Mrs. Dexter Medenilla and children, and so many others in her close-knit community of Baddeck. She was a member of Baddeck Forks Golf Course, where she golfed weekly with the girls. She spent most summer evenings at the Ceilidh, where she helped her late friend Nancy. Marilyn was also a member of the Baddeck Quilting Guild and volunteered at Celtic Colors after club hours for many years. In her later years, instead of slowing down, she always had a map in hand, planning her next adventure. Some of her greatest trips were Croatia, Norway, United Kingdom with close friends, Sable Island with her daughters and driving around Newfoundland and Labrador with her brother. She always had great stories when she returned, which we’ll miss very much. Due to COVID-19, services and life celebrations will be postponed until family can safely travel to be together. Arrangements for the late Marilyn Macleod have been entrusted to Sunset Funeral Cooperative.
