BAKER (Russell), Carol Ann

-

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of our beacon of light, Carol Ann Baker, in the VG site, QEII, on November 28, 2020, at the age of 86. Born October 9, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a daughter of Jimmy and Mabel (Pickering) Kenway (of Halifax). As a young child she moved to Halifax with her mother and sister and attended Richmond School. Over her professional life, Mom worked in a variety of administrative roles at the CBC, Jacobsons clothing store, Klines, Nova Scotia Power, Manpower Temporary Services and she ended her career at Green, Haley, Pye accounting firm. She volunteered with Kinettes and was the administrative manager for the local chapter of the Special Olympics. She was a Cub Master and served as the class parent for every grade at Oxford School for all four of her sons, all the while taking in three foster children who were in need. In her retirement she spent time gardening and friends would say the gardens rivalled that of the Public Gardens. She loved to sew, paint and knit, and over the years she knit hundreds of hats and mittens for under-privileged children. Mom loved going on trips down south and leisure time at the family cottage in East Petpeswick. The pride and joy of Mom’s life was her family. Her dedication and love of family was witnessed every day by her devotion to helping all of us in every way that she could. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, William and her sons, Wayne (Virginia) of Halifax; Glenn (Mary) of Halifax; Barry (Nancy) of Oakville, Ont.; and Drew (Carmella) of Halifax. Her legacy will live on through her grandchildren, Megan and Grace, Justin and Bryana, Lauren and Ian, Deanna and Catherine; and her great-grandson, Angus. She was predeceased by her sister, Joan. Our family is forever grateful to the nursing staff of 5A who made it possible for us to be with her during the pandemic, both in person and virtually. A graveside memorial will be held at a later date for immediate family sometime in the future. Memorial contributions can bemade in Carol’s name to Feed Nova Scotia, www.feednovascotia.ca
