Born in Saint John, N.B., June 17, 1937, daughter of the late Violet and Roy Mills. As a youngster in Saint John, she was involved in Scouting with her brother and parents and was an active participant in her church community. She attended Saint John Vocational School which prepared her for a variety of jobs later in her life, culminating in many years with Xerox of Canada. After high school, Jackie and her best friend, Barb Craig, lived and worked for a time in Detroit. They had many adventures together before returning to Saint John where she married her first husband, Richard Gallie, and started their family. They were involved in community theatre and their church, always volunteering their time and talents. They enjoyed family trips with their children, and loved being with family and friends. They were very happy until his death in 1981. After some time had passed, she moved to Halifax and met Henry Swift. They were married in 1988 and had many happy years together, travelling, wintering in Florida, and enjoying their combined family and-grandchildren. Jackie was a kind, generous and loving person who relished spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends. She always saw the very best in people and found the positive in every situation. She had a wonderful sense of humour and there was nothing she enjoyed more than a good laugh. Her dedication to, and love of, family was evidenced by her devotion to helping all of us in every way that she could. Jackie was predeceased by her husbands, Richard Gallie (1981) and Henry Swift (2014); brother, Derek Mills (2017); and son-in-law, Larry Frauley (2014). She is survived by her children: daughter, Robin Marecek; and son, Kent Gallie (Susan); stepdaughters, Pam Frauley and Judy Donaldson (Paul). Proud grandmother of Emily (Sean), Kate, Christopher, Bryan, Keltie, Kyra, and molly; great-grandmother of "The Baby", Brady; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. The family would like to acknowledge the kindness and excellent care that was given to Jackie and her family from the staff at Lewis Hall. Jackie will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all. A ceremony celebrating Jackie’s life will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or any charity of your choice would be appreciated.
