GILLIS, Daniel Laughlin
September 29, 1960 - December 4, 2020, of Hillsdale Road, Judique. It is with great sadness that the family announces his passing with his family by his side in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Danny was a son of the late Robert and Mary Flora Gillis (of Judique). Danny is survived by his wife of 32 years, Anita (Beaton); his loving daughters, Erica (Trevor) Bourgeois and Kimberly, both of Yellowknife, N.W.T.; his stepdaughter, Tanya Smith (Nick), Calgary, Alta.; his granddaughter and best buddy, Blake Bourgeois who he was so proud of and always had a Blake story for anyone who would listen. Danny is survived by his sisters, Roberta (Finlay) Sutherland, Kanata, Ont.; Eileen (Bill Matson) Mackay, Lisle, Ont.; and Kate (Ed) Storm, Bedford; his brothers, Frank and John (Maureen), both of Judique; and his niece and nephews, Colin, Devon, Kyle, Mikylah and Keenan; and his extended Beaton family. Besides his parents, Danny was predeceased by his infant brother, Daniel; and his in-laws, Angus and Mary Florence Beaton (Port Hood). Danny was a proud member of the International Operators Engineers Union, Local 721, for 30 years where he was a wellknown heavy equipment operator in the construction industry, working mostly for Zutphen Contractors. This enabled him to enjoy his many "toys", especially his 87 Monte Carlo SS which he was so proud of. Danny enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and snowmobiling and of course the NASCAR races every Sunday. The family would like to thank the dedicated Oncology and Palliative Care Teams of Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital for their compassionate care for the last four years. Visitation will be held in the Community Room of Judique Fire Hall today, Monday, December 7th from 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, December 8th at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew’s Parish, Judique. Masks are required and all Covid-19 rules will be in place. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to the Inverness Palliative Care Unit or St. Andrew’s Church, Judique.
