Age 86, Hilden. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Hugh Perley at the age of 86 from Hilden. He passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit, Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro on December 2, 2020 after a brief illness. Born in Chatham, N.B., on March 7, 1934 to parents, Hugh Forbes Perley and Hazel Porter. Hugh graduated from forestry school in Fredericto­n, N.B., and began a full career in the forestry industry retiring from Scott Paper after 50 years. He was an avid outdoorsma­n who loved an early morning paddle on a peaceful lake in his kayak with fishing line cast. When not in the woods or on a lake, he was most often in his workshop creating heirloom woodworkin­g projects such as rocking chairs and snowshoes. He was a founding and retired member of the Hilden Volunteer Fire Brigade. He cherished the lifelong friendship­s made through his involvemen­t with the brigade as well as his working career. Hugh will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 59 years, Diana; his children, Bruce (Karen), Nova Scotia; Cynthia (Bruce), British Columbia; sister, Gertrude, Ontario; niece, June Ann, New Brunswick; and nephew, Bob, Ontario; grandchild­ren, Nicholas, Janine, Kyle and Megan; great- grandchild, Ila. The family would like to thank the VON and the doctors and nurses at the CEHHC Palliative Care Unit for their tireless work and compassion. To our family and friends, we are grateful for your love and support during these most difficult days. Due to COVID-19, there will be no visitation.
