Of Port Hastings, Inverness Co. It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Geraldine Lillian Mackinnon, announce her passing on Sunday, December 6, 2020 in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston with her family at her side. She was a daughter of the late Captain Joseph Reid and Dorothy (Richards) Reid. Geraldine was born in Port aux Basque, N.L., and moved to North Sydney at an early age where she grew up. She was a wonderful mother to her family, a great cook and baker, had great artistic talents and above all she was a kind caring person who went out of her way for others who were less fortunate in society. She taught yoga for many years and was an avid bingo player. She is survived by her husband, Robert Mackinnon; daughters, Wanda, Toronto; Diane Smith Jardine (Bruce deceased), Chester; Bernice Legge (George), Dartmouth; Marlene Jacobi (Eric), Dartmouth; Michelle Melanson (Ron), Halifax; son, James Smith, Lower Sackville; brothers, Percy (Carol), Edmonton, Alta.; Richard (Monique), Mount Uniacke; Gord Seymour (Sherry), Chester; David Seymour, Bridgewate­r; sisters, Paulette Powers (David deceased), Sydney Mines; Ruth Riaux (Rick), Sydney; Mary Lou, St. John’s, N. L.; grandchild­ren, Darren Smith, Melissa Smith, Todd Hodder, Jeremy Smith, Nicole Smith, Daniel Jardine, Spencer Jardine, Jillian Blinkhorn, Courtney Macmullin, Evan Williams, Morgan Williams, Avery Hartland; and great-grandchild­ren, Katelyn, Brandon, Aiden. She was predecease­d by her first husband, James R. Smith; sons, Joseph and William Smith; brother, Joseph Reid; sisters, Joan Pink, Joanna Scott and Florence Murphy. At this time, the family would like to thank the nursing staff, doctors and others who cared for Geraldine during her extended stay in Strait Richmond Hospital. Thank you very much for the care and kindness you showed to her. It was much appreciate­d. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Due to COVID-19 restrictio­ns a celebratio­n of her life will take place at a later time. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
