MACDONALD, Ross Maclean Patterson

-

Age 83, of Cape Breton Island, passed away on December 13, 2020 in Drummond Hall, Halifax. He was born in Cape Breton, the only son of Ross and Annie macdonald. Ross was a gifted and passionate sportsman, excelling to competitive levels in racket sports. Living on the water, the sea was ever-present in his life. We cherish good memories of boating, fishing, diving and sailing with family and friends. He also loved to golf and to ski. A charismatic member of the community, he particularly enjoyed amateur hockey and was a founding member of the Prospect Road Old Timers Hockey League, later winning awards for sportsmanship. Ross loved animals and always had a dog. Along with his wife Elizabeth, who was also a pharmacist, he founded and managed "Community Pharmacy" and for over 30 years was affectionately known as "Uncle Ross" to his customers and neighbours. In their local pharmacy Ross and Betty created a warm and personal environment where a chat and a joke were often dispensed along with careful health care. Late in his career, he became fascinated by the emerging world of computer technology and applied his considerable intellect to learning all about it. Ross loved a joke and his sharp wit and unflagging sense of humour never left him even as a terrible illness stole his brilliant mind. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Eric; daughters, Heather and Sharon; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday December 19th from 2:30-4 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Due to COVID-19 restrictions the visitation will be by appointment only, please call 902- 455- 0531 to reserve your time slot.
