-

"Lives are like rivers: Eventually they go where they must. Not where we want them to." Sadly, wemust announce the recent deaths of husband and wife, soulmates. Gerald Douglas Mcdow and Catherine Louise Mcdow (Pangburn) (both of Lloydminster, Sask.) just 13 days apart. Gerald ( Jerry) died suddenly on November 16, 2020 of complications from pancreatic cancer and Catherine (Cathy) 13 days later on November 29, 2020. Although battling health issues her doctor expressed it best when he said Cathy died of a broken heart. Gerald was born in Middleton, on May 3, 1947 the son of Marjorie Irene Mcdow (Standfield) of Eastern Passage, and the late Douglas Guy Mcdow. After spending his early years in the Annapolis Valley he moved to Dartmouth where the family permanently settled. He followed his father into the plumbing profession, married and had three children. Cathy was born in Halifax, on December 9, 1940 the daughter of the late William and Florence Pangburn. She grew up in Elderbank, Halifax Co., and like Gerald later moved to Dartmouth where she trained to be a hair dresser. She had four children, was a wonderful mother, and ran a perfect household. Gerald and Cathy married 42 years ago in 1978 and like many who have followed since decided to "go West" to make a life together and seek their fortune. They were successful on both counts. Already certified as a plumber, Gerald also became a journeyman pipefitter and a proud, 40 year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 488 being initiated on January 5, 1980. He worked on many projects in and around Edmonton where they originally settled. In 1991 they moved to Lloydminster calling it home ever since. Gerald became Superintendent/project Manager at LML Industrial Contractors Ltd. while Cathy held down the home fort as Gerald was often on the road and worked at Sobeys (and retired) in Lloydminster. They lived life to the fullest embracing the Western style of life, camping, fishing, antique automobiles and their dogs. Gerald was predeceased by his father; and is survived by his mother, Marjorie and stepfather.
