Forward Senna Peeters will rejoin the Halifax Mooseheads when the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season resumes in January.

Mooseheads general manager Cam Russell announced the move on Thursday.

The 18-year-old is in Edmonton as a member of the Austrian team that will play at the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

Peeters, a 2019 CHL import draft pick (No., 47), scored 23 goals and 33 points in 57 games in his rookie season with the Mooseheads.

The forward was a bright spot offensively for the Mooseheads last season and will give the young team an immediate boost with his goalscoring ability.

“We’re thrilled to have Senna back with the team. I think we already have a very talented group of forwards and his addition will make us that much better,” said Russell.

Peeters spent the first portion of the 2020-21 season in Sweden playing for Rogle BK of the J20nationell league where he had seven goals and an assist in six games before the league was paused because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Austrian team is wrapping up its brief quarantine in an Edmonton hotel before entering the world junior bubble, but Peeters said it hasn’t been too bad so far.

“We’re just having lots of

Zoom meetings with the team to get some stretches and workouts in,” said Peeters in the news release. Other than that I’ve just been talking to my parents and teammates a lot on Facetime. The food is also really good here by the way.”

Peeters is the second big addition of the week following the recent announcement that defenceman Stephen Davis is leaving Boston College to join the Mooseheads.

Russell said his attempt to bring Attilio Biasca, the fifth overall 2020 CHL import draft pick, to Halifax is ‘a work in progress.’

Biasca is also in Edmonton with Switzerland’s world junior team. The Swiss have 28 players in camp and have yet to finalize their roster. Biasca has 18 points in 19 games this season with Zug in the U20 Elit league.
