Age 97 of Lower Sackville, passed away December 4, 2020 in Camp Hill Veterans’ Memorial Building, QEII, Halifax. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Lily ( Wheeler) Snow. She is survived by her nephews, Rev. David (Betty) Wheeler, Canso; Ernest (Betty) Wheeler, Mount Pearl, N. L.; Harry Wheeler, Moncton, N.B.; nieces, Shirley Wheeler, Burlington; Jean Joy (Len) Wheeler, Bishop Falls, N.L.; Helen Wheeler, Mount Pear, N.L. She was predecease­d by parents, Frank and Lily Jane Snow; brothers, William, Maynard and Fred Wheeler. Lily’s love of sports and photograph­y began at an early age and developed into a lifelong adventure. During the Second World War Lily joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. She served with the Dental Corps before being recruited for the Canadian Army show as a comedian and a blues singer. Lily was captain and manager of the Arcade Ladies Softball Team, who were Maritime champs in 1946, 1947 and 1948. On October 28, 1999, they were entered into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame. During the Korean War, Lily joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and was posted to Vancouver, B.C. Lily left the service and stayed in Vancouver for a time, then went on to live in the Yukon, then Oslo, Norway where she was employed on the cruise ship MS Sagafjord. Lily decided to come home to Nova Scotia. She volunteere­d with the Sackville Seniors Advisory Council for seven years and was awarded volunteer of the year. She also served as president, secretary and board member for many other organizati­ons such as the Senior’s Centre Associatio­n of Nova Scotia, the Halifax Senior’s housing Society and Sackville Photo Club to name a few. She was a valuable member of Knox United Church and Uniacke Baptist Church. Lily’s wealth of personal life experience­s and her high moral character enhanced the lives of so many around her. No cause was too big or small for her to tackle, and she handled them all with enthusiasm, a sense of fair play and good humour. A graveside committal will be held Monday, December 21st in Camp Hill Cemetery at 1 p.m., Rev. David Wheeler officiatin­g. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bibles for Missions, your local food bank, or Bide A While Animal Shelter.
