HINES (Coldwell), Barbara Irene

-

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Barbara Irene Hines (Coldwell). Mom passed away at the age of 85 on December 29, 2020 quietly at home surrounded by her family in Dartmouth. Mom was born at home on Gaspereau Mountain on February 14, 1935. She was the eldest daughter of Ralph and Lova Coldwell (of Gaspereau). Mom leaves behind her greatest blessings, her children, Cindy Hines, Lynn Hines (Rob) Comox, B.C.; Dawne Walker ( Dave), Mike Hines and Kellie Hawley (Frankie), all of Dartmouth; her muchloved grandchildren, Jessy, Lynsay, Evan and Aaron; greatgrandchildren, Jayda and Joley. Also her sisters, Geneva Conrad (Laurie), Kentville; Betty-ann Dudziak ( Phil), Manchester, N.H.; Carolyn Fraser, Kingston; and all of her nieces and nephews. Waiting for her with open arms was her beloved husband, Donald (whom she missed so dearly); her parents; brother, Stuart Coldwell; sisters, Blossom Coldwell and Nina O’handley; and her granddaughter, Brooke Julya Hines-mills. Mom was an RNA by profession along with being a wonderful homemaker. She worked at many hospitals such as the Nova Scotia Sanitorium, Grace Hospital, Toronto; Eastern Kings Memorial Hospital, Wolfville; Salvation Army Infants Home, Halifax; Hotel Dieu, Chatham, N.B.; and Annapolis Royal Hospital. Mom travelled extensively with Dad who was in the Canadian Armed Forces, finally settling at her family’s homestead in Gaspereau, where Dad retired. Our mother loved flowers, birds, and animals. She was a great cook and baker but often expressed how much she hated to do both. She loved to knit, crochet, making crafts out of nothing and enjoyed working at the Thrift Shop in CFB Cold Lake. She enjoyed going with her daughters and grandchildren to Value Village and Sally Ann’s, where she would often bring home many treasures. Cremation has taken place and a funeral with a celebration of life will be held at a later date due to COVID-19. Mom requested that any donations be made in memory of her to the SPCA. A special thank you to Dr. George Richardson, Dr. Colin Van Zoost and Homecare for their kindness, care and upmost compassion during this difficult time.
