MACDONALD, Malcolm Donald "Malkie"

-

Age 84, of Gaetz Brook, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2021 with his wife of 62 years, Beverly Jane ( Fraser) Macdonald, at his side. He is survived by his children, Malcolm ( Sue) Macdonald, Janet ( Dan) Mcleod, Kathleen ( Andy) Buell; brothers, Larry, Ronald, Gerald, Billy, and Danny; sisters, Betty Mackay, Mary Daye, Lauretta Macpherson, Delinah Macdonald; and many nieces, nephews; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren of whom he was especially proud. He was predeceased by his parents, Danny and Marymacdonald; brother, Jimmy Macdonald and sister, Florence Walker. Born in Inverness, Cape Breton in February, 1936 Malcolm was third child and oldest son of 12 brothers and sisters. His family moved to Plymouth when he was 11 where Malcolm would complete his formal education and eventually meet Beverly, the great love of his life. Malcolm began his life’s work with a brief but fondly remembered stint with the CNR where he developed a lifelong love of the railway. In 1958 Malcolm focussed his sights on the financial sector where he wrote his first loan with Crescent Finance. Malcolm remained in the banking industry for the rest of his life eventually working his way up to Vice President Regional Lending with Central Guarantee Trust. In 1992 Malcolm semi-retired from the rat race, and began wintering with Bev in Dunedin, Fla., where they settled into a relaxing life with their many new friends. Never one to sit still for long however, he continued to freelance for the TD Bank and Bank of Canada for many years before finally entering full retirement in 2016 at the age of 81. Malcolm also found time to enjoy many activities such as darts, gardening, wine-making, cooking and bragging about his grandchildren. The latter being his favorite pastime he would talk endlessly about their accomplishments, great or small, whenever he could. Malcolm also loved to reminisce about the summers of his youth on his Papa’s farm, trips to New York, his days of riding the rails, and growing up in rural Nova Scotia with his many siblings and cousins. He was very aware and proud of his position as the true patriarch of his family. He was the rock that all could count on providing sage advice when needed, direction when required and support always. He will be sadly missed by all whether known as Malcolm, Mac, Malkie, brother, uncle, husband, dad or his favorite name, grampie. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission. Online condolences may be viewed at: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com Rest in peace Grampie, love Adam, Krista, Danielle, Jeff, Michelle, Jessica, Jaclyn, Aden, Liam, Max, Lincoln, Layla, Madelyn, Elsie.
