JEWERS, Barry Leigh

-

Age 73, Ecum Secum. It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of our "great Canadian lumberjack." Barry was born on August 21, 1947 and was the son of the late Cecil and Ruth ( Bezanson) Jewers (of Ecum Secum). Barry had many different jobs over the years including working at the Radar Station and at Liscombe Lodge. However, when asked what he did for a living, Barry would always respond that he was a "great Canadian lumberjack" - a tribute to his time spent working in the woods. Barry enjoyed spending time outside usually tinkering in his shed or planting gardens, and in his earlier years he enjoyed going for runs on the four-wheeler or terrorizing Diane on the snowmobile. He also enjoyed fishing and kept a regular running tally on the number of fish he caught so that he could compare it to his nephew Dana’s tally - often boasting that his number was higher. Barry’s great sense of humour and quiet ways will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his nephews, Jody, Dana (Deena), Alex (Angela) and Ryan; as well as his great-nieces and nephews, Abigail, Ty, Lauchlan, Malcolm, and Bella, as well as his faithful dog Jackson. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, Douglas Jewers; and his devoted wife of 38 years, Diane (Fleet). Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no visitation. The funeral and burial will be by invitation only. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
