HACKETT, Kevin Joseph

-

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kevin Hackett, 80, of Halifax, who passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at home with his family by his side. Kevin was born in English Harbour East, Fortune Bay, N. L., to James and Margaret Hackett, being raised by Philomena and Michael T. Hackett, from the age of six. He was the loving husband to the love of his life, Carol Hackett (Raftus). They shared 57 wonderful years together raising their two boys Phillip and Darren. Kevin was predeceased by his birth mother, Margaret Hackett and her parents who raised him, Philomena and Michael T. Hackett. Kevin is survived by his wife, Carol (Raftus); sons, Phillip (Karen), and Darren (Vicki); and brother, Michael (Margaret) Hackett. At the age of 16 Kevin moved to Halifax to work at the Forty Fathom Division of National Sea Products fish plant where he met his one true love Carol who he married on September 7, 1963. After 18 years at the fish plant, he began working at the Halifax Shipyards where he worked from 1975 until his retirement in 2001, as a rigger. Anyone who knew Kevin would agree that he was a hard-working family man who enjoyed parties, playing darts, cribbage, and horseshoes with whoever was up to the challenge, especially his best friend Alfie Jollimore. He loved being at the lake with his family and friends so much so that he and his sons, with some help from friends, built a beautiful cottage. After completing the cottage in 1993 you could find Kevin with his family and friends, spending endless days at the cottage, cruising around in the boat, swimming and playing games. Never a day would go by where there wasn’t laughter and stories. Kevin always lived on the bright side of life, working hard, and partying harder. So many fond memories to remember and share, thank you for sharing your life with us, until we meet again Kev, may you rest in peace. The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Humphrey, Palliative Care, Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) for their kindness, care, and support. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. The funeral service will take place Thursday, January 7, 2021 at 11 a.m. in J. Albert Walker Funeral Home, 149 Herring Cove Rd., Halifax. COVID-19 restrictions apply. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada in Kevin’s memory. To leave words of tribute for the family please visit: www.walkerfh.com
