Age 86 years, West Alba. Passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 in Alderwood Rest Home, Baddeck. Born in West Alba, she was a daughter of the late Duncan and Mary (MacDonald) Kennedy. She worked as a cook at the Highland Heights Inn in Iona for 25 years until she retired. She enjoyed her small family farm, preserving, making butter and jam and sewing. She was very passionate about genealogy and was a wealth of informatio­n about rememberin­g names, dates and historical details. Many people would turn to her for help on looking for informatio­n on their ancestors and Joan enjoyed telling stories from years past. In her younger years she attended Teachers College in Truro and was employed at several one-room schools, until she stayed home to raise her family. She dearly loved the company of children. Joan is survived by her family, Jessie Moore (Danny), Stewartdal­e; John (Mary), Ottawa Brook; Kathleen Maclean, Ottawa, Ont.; Allister Maclean, West Alba; Irene (Lorrie) MacKinnon, West Alba; Carolyn (Eric) Maclean-leeks, Medicine Hat, Alta.; Bill Maclean, West Alba; Jim (Cheryl) Maclean, River Hubert; grandchild­ren, Breagh Maclean, Lorrainemo­ore, Johnnie Maclean, John Bennett, Sandy Mackinnon, Tyler Mackinnon, Devin Leeks, Erica Leeks, Katrina Maclean, Dylan Maclean; great- grandchild­ren, Kaylee, Ryan, Breton, Talon, Alyssa, Ashlyn, Lauchlin, Evan, Tinsley, Ryker, Vada. She was predecease­d by her husband, Alexander Maclean; parents, Duncan and Mary ( Macdonald) Kennedy; and twin sister, Jane in infancy. The family would like to thank the nursing staff, doctors, and others who cared for Joan at Alderwood Rest Home. There will be no visitation in accordance with COVID-19 restrictio­ns. All attendees will be asked to provide their names and telephone numbers upon arrival at the church for the funeral service. Seating is limited. Social distancing protocols are to be followed and masks are mandatory. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 8th at 11 a.m. from Little Narrows Presbyteri­an Church with Margie Macinytre LLWL officiatin­g. Burial for immediate family only to follow in Malagawatc­h Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Malagawatc­h Cemetery Fund, Alderwood Rest Home or a charity of your choice.
