DICKINSON, Gloria Grace

-

It is with heavy hearts and gratitude for a long life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Gloria Grace Dickinson, age 86 of Amherst on Friday, January 8, 2021 in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst, with her loving family by her side following a courageous battle with ALS. Born in Amherst, Gloria was the only child of the late Lloyd and Grace (Ash) Atkinson. She attended school in Amherst and graduated from Saint Charles Commercial School. She went on to work with the Government of Canada for 37 years through the Department of Regional Economic Expansion, Maritime Resource Management Service and Indigenous Affairs. Gloria was a talented pianist who gave lessons in her home, played at numerous churches throughout the county and later with The Travellers. She was a proud member of Miriam Rebekah Lodge, ascending to Noble Grand. She was also a long-time member of Trinity-st. Stephen’s United Church and the church choir. Gloria was very involved in the community, being a member of the Pythian Sisters, the CRHCC Auxiliary, a life member of United Church Women, CGIT as a leader, and Christian Women to name a few. She set a wonderful example of kindness and generosity, quietly giving her time and resources to those less fortunate. She loved being out and about, chatting and laughing with people and enjoyed the simple things in life: a good coffee, anything chocolate, a good joke, snowstorms and feeling the warm sunshine at her cottage in Northport. She will be missed and lovingly remembered by her only child, Steve Colborne (Julie Smith), Amherst; grandsons, Jesse, Amherst; Quinn, Truro; Brady (Samantha Ellis), Truro; Jackson, Amherst; step grandson, Eric Smith ( Jannah), Parrsboro; her beloved great-granddaughter, Angelina Grace with two more expected in 2021; sistersin-law, Penny Crummey, Betty Colborne and Joan Colborne; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her sisterin-law, Isabel Sproule; brothersin- law, David Colborne, Don Crummey, Bernie Sproule, Roddy Colborne and several cousins. Following Gloria’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, 902-667-9906. A celebration of life and interment in Amherst Cemetery will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of Centennial Villa for the love and care Mom received during her time there. We would also like to express our gratitude to the compassionate nursing staff of both the medical and palliative care units at Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre for the gentle kindness shown during Mom’s stay. Your professionalism and personal touch will never be forgotten. Memorial contributions can be made in Gloria’s memory to Trinity- St. Stephen’s United Church or a charity of your choice.
