PURDY, Burton F. "Burt"

Age 85, Truro, formerly of Lower Onslow, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021,in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Oxford, Cumberland Co., he was a son of the late Ivan and Bertha (Fullerton) Purdy. Burt graduated from Provincial Normal College, Truro, in 1955 and was a former school teacher having taught in Kings County, Colchester County, Cumberland County and Halifax County. He taught at Atlantic Provinces Resource Centre for the hearing impaired for several years and then acted as interim teacher for APRCHH. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church, Truro, where he was a member of the choir and served on the Board of Christian Education. He also served as supply organist for various churches in the community. In associatio­n with the hearing impaired, he attended Clarke Schools for Hearing and Speech, Northampto­n, Mass., USA, and he also attended Mount Allison University and Dalhousie University summer sessions. Along with his parents, he was predecease­d by his brothers, Gordon and Robert “Bob”. Arrangemen­ts have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 27th, Rev. Gordon Sutherland officiatin­g. Interment in Robie Street Cemetery. (Please note that proof of double vaccinatio­n and photo identifica­tion will be requested prior to entry to the funeral home for the funeral service, and masks must be worn at all times; thank you for your co-operation and understand­ing.) If so desired, donations in Burt’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed. Webcasting of the funeral service will be available at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, October 27th and will remain on this website for some time.
