NEILY, John Alden

-

It is with great sadness and loving memories that we announce the passing of our father John Alden Neily, age 84, surrounded by his loving family on January 30, 2023. John was born in North Kingston NS September 23,1938. John was predeceased by his mother, Mildred (Downie) and father Reginald Neily, of North Kingston, as well as twin sister Joan (Keith) Churchill and brother R. Eugene Neily. John was also predeceased by his loving wife Carol (Cain) Neily of 57 years this past September 2022. They were both quite ill and fortunate to have been able to spend the final weeks of Carols life together at Oceanview Continuing Care Home. John is survived by his two devoted twin daughters, Rebecca Neily and Barbara (Jason) Stubbs. Jason and John shared a love of sports and spent many hours watching whatever sport was on TV but hockey was always a favourite John is also survived by his only grandson, Carter Stubbs with whom he was very proud of and was known to share a fist bump or special handshake. John is survived by his sister, Judy Pinsent as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. John had a very long 42 year career with Scotiabank with many accomplishments and accolades. Both John and Carol enjoyed a 10 year posting to The Bahamas where they both worked at a branch in Nassau with John as Manager. As a young man John also worked as a Runner for the Speaker of the house at the House of Commons in Halifax and very much enjoyed that experience. John enjoyed many activities which included bowling, poker, crossword puzzles and watching and feeding the birds wherever they were living. John was such a kind caring soul, very witty and intelligent man. He was great with words and anyone who knew him well enough surely knew his rhyming abilities in witty poems he penned himself. When asked how he was doing , “right up there” was almost always his response. John loved his family and will be dearly missed by all. We will love and miss you forever Dad but so grateful you are finally at peace and back with Mom and Kacie. At my parents request there will be a family graveside service in Yarmouth at a later date, where Mom and Dad will be buried together with their beloved pup Kacie.
