CELLPHONE ACTIVITY

-

On Thursday, Telus security investigator Don Calpito testified about activity on cellphones owned by Sandeson and Samson.

Calpito said Sandeson’s phone received an incoming 90-second call on Aug. 15 at about 10:39 p.m. He said the call was not answered and went to voicemail.

He said Sandeson’s phone pinged off a cellular tower on the Dalhousie campus at the time of that call. He said Telus records do not indicate whether the phone was powered on or off.

On Aug. 16, an incoming call to Sandeson’s phone at 10:41 a.m. was immediately forwarded to voicemail at 10:41 a.m., Calpito said.

The Telus official said the phone sent or received six text messages Aug. 16 between 12:53 a.m. and 3:57 a.m., followed by a period of almost seven hours with no texts. He said there were no phone calls during that period either.

On Aug. 18, Sandeson’s phone was used to place a 64-second call at 10:05 a.m. and a three-minute call at 10:16 a.m. The calls pinged off cell towers in four parts of Colchester County: Bible Hill, Kemptown, Hilden and Brookfield.

Records for Samson’s phone indicate the last outgoing text message on the device was sent Aug. 15 at 10:25 p.m., around the time he arrived at Sandeson’s apartment building. The phone pinged off the cell tower at Dalhousie when it was last used for a voice call a few minutes earlier, at 10:22 p.m.

Calpito said incoming calls to Samson’s phone after 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 15 were immediately redirected to voicemail, indicating the device was either turned off or in a no-service area.
