George Henry Blunden of Halifax passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on April 20th, 2024, surrounded by family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Audrey Marie Blunden; and his four children, Robert Blunden, Douglas (Kendall) Blunden, Peter (Marge) Blunden, Carolyn (David) Sisley, as well as his grandchildren, David Blunden, Christina (Mike) Brennan, Gregory (Katherine) Blunden, James Blunden, Alexander (Kate) Sisley, Kimberley Blunden, Gillian (Brady) Shanks, Jason Blunden; and his great-grandchildren, Madison, Jared, Jack, Ryan, Henry, and George. He is predeceased by his father, Harry; his mother, Catherine; and his siblings; sisters, Bertha, Anne, Edith and Ruth; and brothers, Sam and Ron. George and Audrey met while attending Queen Elizabeth High School at the age of 15 and married 5 years later in 1952. The eldest son of a master carpenter from Fogo, Newfoundland, George was asked to drop out of high school before finishing his final year to help his father start a business, ensuring the family of seven children would be supported. Harry and 16-year-old George started Blunden Supplies Ltd., and soon after that, Blunden Construction Ltd., which George ran successfully for over 50 years. His dedication and passion would pave the way for generations of entrepreneurs in his family to follow in his footsteps and a proud member of Family Business Atlantic. George was a man of great integrity; a firm believer in honouring a deal sealed with a handshake. He built many buildings, schools, banks and additions to prominent facilities throughout Nova Scotia. George’s favourite interest, besides work and family, was fishing throughout NS, Newfoundland and Labrador, which he did several times each year with his fishing buddies and family. He was a devout Christian who believed in sharing his success with his tithe to the church and many other charities. One of his favourites was Feed Nova Scotia. He leaves behind a legacy of generosity, fierce loyalty, and a deep care for the well-being of his fellow persons throughout the community. A funeral will be held in his honour at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 29th, at the J. A. Snow Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive. Family flowers only. If you would like to honour George, please do so through the charity of your choice.
