- CAROLE MORRIS-UNDERHILL

NEWPORT CORNER — A single-vehicle accident that occurred in Hants County on Canada Day has claimed the life of an out-of-town visitor.

The fatal accident occurred in Newport Corner around 5 p.m. on Highway 215.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke, a public relations officer with the Nova Scotia RCMP, said the medical examiner was conducting an autopsy and notifying next of kin.

Clarke said while she couldn’t confirm the deceased’s name, she could confirm that the lone occupant of the vehicle was a woman who was not from Hants County.

In a news release issued Thursday afternoon, it was noted the deceased was a 28-year-old from Porter’s Lake.

Clarke said the RCMP shut down the Newport Corner road as a collision analyst reviewed the scene. That stretch of Highway 215 reopened around 1 a.m. Thursday.
