BERNARD, Harvey Roger
Of We’koqma’q First Nation, age 61 years. Passed away at home on Saturday, June 27, 2020. Born in Inverness, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Googoo) Bernard. Harvey worked as a carpenter for many years, was a No. 1 Fan of all ball games. He played crib, darts, and horseshoes. He was a fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Blue Jays, he enjoyed watching golf and played for the Whycocomagh Warriors. Harvey is survived by his common-law spouse of over 30 years, Brenda Prosper; his sons, Chad Prosper, Harvey Bernard Jr., and Oliver Bernard, all of We’koqma’q; sisters, Elizabeth Toney, We’koqma’q; Sarah Cope, Truro; Annabella Nicholas, Harriett Nicholas, Mary Josephine Googoo, Lucille Bernard, all of We’koqma’q; brother, Alexander Bernard, We’koqma’q; godchildren, Stanford Phillips and Noel Jeji Nicholas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Harvey was predeceased by his sisters, Alice Bernard, Mary Helen Googoo and Bernice in Infancy; brothers, Noel Michael Bernard, Jeffery Bernard and Matthew Bernard. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, July 6th in We’koqma’q Community Centre, 15 Reservation Rd., Waycobah First Nation. Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 8th from Blessed St. Katari Parish Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Waycobah First Nation with Father Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
