BOWES (Sanford), Shirley "Marina" Simm

Age 78, of Shubenacad­ie, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2020 in The Mira Long Term Care, Truro with her granddaugh­ter, Lacey by her side. Marina was a daughter of the late Charles and Mabel Sanford. She spent 13 years working for Cara Operations before working as a Health Care Worker at Scotia Nursing Home where her compassion for helping others could be applied. She had a great love for music, animals, gardening and nature. Marina was a member of Faith Community Church in Milford for the past 20 years where she had many friends who were like a second family. She leaves behind her children, Christophe­r, Wade and Susan (Dan) Simm; grandchild­ren, Lacey, Steven and Scott Simm; and her special stand-in daughter, Dorothy Wagner; sisters, June, Joan, Marilyn (Paul) and Sharon; along with many nieces and nephews. She was predecease­d by siblings, Lester, Stanley, Marie, Hazel and Jean. The family would like to offer special thanks to the many people who helped in the care of Marina during these past few years, especially the compassion­ate staff of The Mira; Colchester East Hants Palliative Care, VON, Faith Community Church Family, Pastor Paul for the love and support, Christa for the in-home haircuts, friends at Sunnybrook, Sherry for adopting her beloved dog, Jake; Jim, and Marina - who made sure she stayed in her apartment as long as possible. A very special thank you to her sister and friend, Marilyn who has been by her side her entire life. A private graveside service will be held in Preeper Hill Cemetery. A Celebratio­n of Life will be held at a later date once COVID restrictio­ns are lifted.
