-

It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden death of Mary "Dawna" Macdonald, 57, of Port Hawkesbury and formerly of Mulgrave, which occurred on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Dawna was the daughter of Ruth and the late Lewis Macdonald. Dawna graduated and was a Valedictorian from Mulgrave Memorial High School. She went on to Canso Regional Vocational School where she received her Business Administration Diploma. She furthered her education as a mature student and received her four-year degree in two years from St. F.X. University. She started her work career at CJFX, then as an office manager for several construction companies. She was employed at St. F.X. Extension for several years. Her last position was with the Town of Port Hawkesbury as Communication and Administrative Office/town Clerk. She was also a Justice of the Peace. Dawna was a world traveller and loved adventure, be it an African safari, a trek in the Himalayas, to the Taj Mahal or the Sistine Chapel. Her love of travel knew no bounds. Her search for knowledge and family history was a blessing to all her family. She loved parachuting with her nephews and vacationing with her sisters. Dawna will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her laughing blue eyes, her generosity and her fierce love of her nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces. A bright light has gone out in the Macdonald family, but will shine on in those recipients who received her organs. Dawna leaves behind her fiancé and close companion of 35 years, John Bolger; mother, Ruth Macdonald; sisters, Alice, Deborah (Chris) Chamberlain; brothers, Lloyd (Joanne), Gary (Linda), David, Glen (Marlene), Phillip (Debra), his former wife Jennifer, Bobby (Angela); nieces and nephews, Natalie, Kristy, Charles, Tara, Brent, Fred, Nelson, Bradley, Candace, Jarrett, Ryan, Nicholas, Kory, Molly, Cole, Kiernan, Lance and Jill; grand nieces and nephews, Victoria, Taylor, Hannah, Benjamin, Logan, Ava, Harper, Jett, Lukas and Emerson; her loving uncle, Farrell (Betty Ann); and her friend, Carmel. She was predeceased by her loving father, Lewis; her precious nephew, Luke; her ex-husband, Jogvan Kjilboro; and cherished fur baby Cleo. Dawna was a lover of all animals, but dogs were the love of her life. Donations maybe made to Hope for Wildlife or to the Nova Scotia SPCA.
